WELLBEING

Wellbeing is at the heart of all we do at KMS as when pupils are happy, they learn best.

We believe that positive wellbeing is essential and want our pupils and staff to be happy, healthy individuals. Positive wellbeing impacts on confidence, resilience, decision making and relationships. We recognise that an individual’s wellbeing fluctuates, and support is sometimes needed and have a large inclusion team to facilitate this. This team is made up of a range of staff members with extensive knowledge and experience. Wellbeing interventions and support are led by Jordan Ambler the Pupil Wellbeing Coordinator.

We support pupil wellbeing via a range of strategies including bespoke individual interventions and check ins, SAP (Student Assistance Programme) group sessions, peer mentoring and digital wellbeing checks to name just a few. Interventions and check-ins are tailored to the individual and can be with any member of the inclusion team which includes the DSP, members of SLT, Key Stage Managers or the Head of 6th Form. Check ins run throughout the year including during the holidays.

Primary school pastoral support is available from the class teacher along with all the above-mentioned specific packages. In secondary, upon arrival at KMS, whether in Year 7 or at any point in the secondary journey, pupils are provided with significant pastoral support. All pupils are linked to a form tutor and an academic tutor to support them and oversee progress and wellbeing; they are also allocated to one of our 4 houses.  Pupils are overseen by members of the Middle Leadership Team

  • Mrs Fairchild – Deputy Head Primary
  • Miss Phillipart – Key Stage Manager Y7-9
  • Miss Evans – Key Stage Manager Y10-11
  • Mrs Alexander – Head of 6th Form

All pupils, parents and staff have access to ClassCharts Wellbeing. This allows pupils to inform the inclusion team if something is wrong, or if they are feeling worried, anxious, or upset. A member of the team can then discreetly undertake a check in. Likewise, parents and teachers can log any concerns about a pupil’s wellbeing thus alerting the team. Pupils engage well with this system and log instances of positive wellbeing also.

At KMS we believe in the importance of pupil leadership. There are a wide variety of roles for pupils to undertake with some being focused upon wellbeing such as Peer Mentoring and the Diana Award Anti Bullying Ambassador Programme. We have also appointed a pupil in y10 to undertake a new role of Pupil Wellbeing Liaison

Miss Ambler runs a parent wellbeing session each year that provides valuable information and resources on how to support your child’s wellbeing. This includes information on support in school as well as from outside agencies. Indeed, we work closely with a range of organisations to support and promote wellbeing .
