A Kings Monkton School, our Early Years Class provides the perfect balance between a nursery setting and the structure of a school environment. Designed for children aged 3 & 4 years old, our provision offers an exciting play-based curriculum that prepares children for a lifelong love of learning while giving them the confidence and skills they need to flourish.
We understand that choosing an early years setting is one of the most important decisions a family will make. Working closely with parents, we create a worm, caring and stimulating where every child is known as an individual. Our small class sizes enable our experienced, qualified staff to provide personalised support, ensuring every child feels safe, valued and encouraged to achieve their potential.
Learning takes place through a carefully planned blend of child-initiated exploration and purposeful adult-led activities. Children enjoy role-play, construction, creative arts, sand and water play, outdoor learning, technology and practical experiences that inspire curiosity, imagination, and independence. Every activity is carefully planned to support the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum while allowing children to learn naturally through play.
As part of our primary school, children benefit from specialist support beyond the classroom. Our pastoral team ensures every child is happy and settled, while our experienced Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator (ALNCo) works alongside staff to provide early identification and support where required. This seamless approach helps children develop socially, emotionally, and academically from the very start of their educational journey.
Our Early Years provision is available Monday to Friday from 8.00AM until 4.00PM, providing families with a full school-day experience. Lunches and educational trips are included, there is no VAT on fees, and children enjoy guaranteed progression into our Year 1 class, ensuring continuity in their education.
At £10,431.49 per year when choosing either our Annual Early Payment (AEP) or Early Payment Option (EPO), our Early Years Class represents exceptional value – equating to just £57.95 per day for a high-quality Early Years education within an independent school setting.
We warmly invite you to visit Kings Monkton School, meet our dedicated staff and happy pupils, and discover how our Early Years Class provides the very best start to your child’s educational journey.
At Kings Monkton School, we believe young children develop the strongest communication and language skills through play, exploration and meaningful interactions. Our play-based approach provides children with countless opportunities to talk, listen, question and share ideas as they engage in imaginative play, construction, outdoor learning and collaborative activities with their friends.
Our Early Years environment is carefully planned to encourage rich conversations and extend children’s vocabulary naturally. Whether they are acting out stories in the role play area, investigating the natural world outdoors, building with construction materials or taking part in group games, children are supported by skilled adults who model language, ask thoughtful questions and encourage confident communication.
Stories, songs, rhymes and daily shared reading are woven throughout the day, helping children develop a love of books while building their listening, comprehension and early literacy skills. As children become ready, they begin to make meaningful marks and develop early writing through fun, purposeful activities linked to their interests.
To support early reading, we introduce phonics through the engaging Floppy Phonics programme. Using a multi-sensory, play-based approach, children learn letter sounds through actions, songs, games and practical activities before progressing to blending sounds to read and spell simple words.
At Kings Monkton School, we believe young children learn mathematics best through play. Our Early Years environment is designed to spark curiosity, allowing children to explore mathematical ideas naturally as they play, investigate and discover.
Everyday play provides countless opportunities for children to develop early mathematical skills. Whether they are building with blocks, filling and emptying containers in the water tray, creating patterns with natural materials, counting objects, sharing toys, or exploring shape and space outdoors, children are constantly making sense of the world through mathematical thinking.
Our skilled staff carefully join in children’s play, introducing new vocabulary, asking thoughtful questions and extending learning through meaningful experiences. Rather than simply teaching numbers, we encourage children to problem-solve, estimate, compare, measure and recognise patterns in ways that are fun, engaging and relevant to their interests.
At Kings Monkton School, we believe children develop their understanding of the world through curiosity, exploration and play. Our Early Years environment encourages children to investigate, question and discover as they interact with people, places, nature and technology.
Through hands-on experiences, children are encouraged to explore the changing seasons, care for living things, investigate natural materials, build and create, use technology, and learn about the people and communities around them. Whether they are planting seeds, searching for mini beasts, experimenting with water, constructing models or using digital technology, every experience helps children make sense of the world around them.
Our skilled staff enrich children’s play by encouraging them to ask questions, solve problems and share their ideas. By following children’s interests and providing exciting opportunities to explore, we nurture confident, inquisitive learners who develop the knowledge, skills and understanding that form the foundations for future learning in science, technology, history, geography and beyond.
At Kings Monkton School, we believe children develop physically by being active, adventurous and engaged in purposeful play. Our play-based approach provides daily opportunities for children to build confidence, coordination and control while enjoying a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities.
Through climbing, balancing, running, jumping, riding, dancing and exploring our outdoor environment, children develop their gross motor skills, strength and agility. Fine motor skills are nurtured through creative activities such as drawing, painting, threading, construction, cutting and modelling, helping children build the hand strength and control needed for early writing.
As children play, they are encouraged to take appropriate risks, challenge themselves and celebrate their achievements, developing resilience, independence and self-confidence. We also promote healthy lifestyles by encouraging regular physical activity, good hygiene and healthy eating, helping children understand the importance of looking after both their bodies and their wellbeing.
By learning through active play in a safe, supportive environment, children can develop the physical skills and confidence that provide a strong foundation for future learning and lifelong health.
