Children and young people have a right to be cared for and protected, protecting them is everyone’s responsibility. Here at Kings Monkton School we have a duty of care to ensure that all members of our school community are kept safe from harm.
We are committed to providing a secure and supportive environment in which children and young people can develop and grow into mature and responsible adults. Safeguarding is an essential part of Kings Monkton’s values, and approach, to ensure that children and young people are protected from abuse and neglect and that every child reaches their full potential.
The best interests of our learners will always be our priority. As such, there are times we will need to record, monitor and share information with other agencies. We will always share concerns about our pupils with the child’s parents/carers, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would not be in the child’s best interest.
Kings Monkton School ensures all policies and procedures in respect of safeguarding children are up to date and in line with up to date legislation. Policies and procedures are reviewed and revised by our DSP, Senior Leadership Team and Academic Board on a regular basis.
Kings Monkton School is associated with the local Safeguarding Children Board of each Local Authority we have learners reside in. Any issues related to safeguarding children will be discussed at these boards as required.
Kings Monkton Schools Designated Safeguarding Person is Mrs Sara Strange. Mrs Karen Norton is Deputy Designated Safeguarding Person and the Safeguarding Team consists of Abi Price, Niamh Brady, Stephen Morse and Michael Nelson.
They are clear about their role, have sufficient time and receive relevant support, and training, to undertake their roles, which includes close contact with outside agencies including social services, the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board and relevant health care organisations.
Kings Monkton School meets statutory requirements in relation to Disclosure & Barring Service – all staff and volunteers who work with Kings Monkton School is required to undergo an enhanced DBS check prior to employment.
All staff are required to undertake relevant safeguarding training and this is regularly reviewed by the DSP. A training database for all staff is maintained, while training needs are reviewed as part of individual performance reviews and more broadly throughout the organisation by audit.
